Winter 21

Centering ourselves

Cityscape is taking exploring our city to a whole new level. This issue, we’ve taken a special interest in central Christchurch – particularly the idea of living between the four avenues. We’re talking to the developers creating new homes; getting the latest news on what’s happening and coming up in the area; having some fun with a bit of central city satire; and most importantly talking to the real people who live in the CBD about their experiences.

We’re also back to our old tricks of reviewing some of Ōtautahi’s hottest suburbs – this time round we’re taking a look at Sumner, Woolston, New Brighton and Victoria Street. We’re showing off some of the best brunches available in Christchurch, exploring the little rituals that help us reconnect with our lives, and checking out all the goods you can get delivered on a subscription basis to give you more time for the important stuff (like cooking the amazing recipes we’ve got from top Christchurch chefs).

We’ve got interviews with art experts on how to choose art, how to frame it, hang it, and make it match your home and personal style. We talk to top Christchurch theatre directors and actors about their upcoming performances and what’s going on in their lives, and take a look at what’s coming up at the various theatres, stages and entertainment venues around Ōtautahi. Highlights include interviews with the all-women creative team behind The Marriage of Figaro, and Loughlan Prior, the choreographer and creative mind behind Royal New Zealand Ballet’s upcoming performances of The Firebird.

And in Cityscape, you’ll never be short of information about what our city has to offer when it comes to fashion, food, homeware, culture and events – and we’ve even got a travel feature on escaping to some of the less-travelled tropical islands of the South Pacific.
